Dresl is back…wins 50-meter freestyle at U.S. Olympic Trials in Paris

American swimming star Caleb Dressl, 27, overcame a panic attack to earn a prized Olympic berth.

Dressl touched the pads in 21.41 seconds to win the men’s 50-meter freestyle final at the U.S. Swimming Management Team Trials for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana, U.S., on Wednesday (Aug. 22).

Dressl, who earlier finished third in the 100-meter freestyle to qualify for the 400-meter freestyle relay, earned his first individual spot at the Paris Games.

In 2021, Dressl, the men’s 50-meter freestyle gold medalist at Tokyo 2020, will attempt to win back-to-back gold medals.

Dressl, who has seven career Olympic gold medals, abruptly withdrew from the rest of the 2022 World Championships in Budapest and returned home.

He disappeared from the pool for a while afterward and later admitted to battling panic disorder.

Dressl also qualified for the final in the men’s 100-meter butterfly semifinals, finishing first in 50.79 seconds.

Dressl holds the world record in the 100-meter butterfly (49.45).

Carson Foster won the men’s 200-meter individual medley in 1:55.65, while Regan Smith took first in the women’s 200-meter backstroke final in 2:05.16. 사설토토
