Defending women’s professional basketball champion Asan Woori Bank defeated Yongin Samsung Life to open the season with a six-game winning streak .Woori Bank defeated Samsung Life 53-48 in a home game of the Woori Bank Woori WON 2023-2024 Women’s Professional Basketball Regular Season at the Asan Yi Sunshin Gymnasium on Thursday .Woori, last season’s overall champion, has won six straight games since the start of the season to maintain its lead. Samsung Life, which lost its second straight home game to Woori on Nov. 18, is in third place with three wins and three losses. Woori took a 17-10 lead in the first quarter, but Samsung Life turned the tide in the second quarter with four three-pointers.
To start the second quarter, back-to-back three-pointers by Shin Isul and Lee Hae-ran and a basket by Bae Hye-yoon tied the score at 18-17, and another three-pointer by Shin and Lee turned the tide at 19-21. At the end of the first half, Samsung Life led 27-23. Samsung Life extended its lead to 30-23 at the start of the third quarter, but the entire third quarter was tied at five points. Meanwhile, Woori Bank, with Park Hye-jin, Choi Yi-sam, Park Ji-hyun, and Kim Dan-bi scoring evenly, ended the third quarter with a 37-32 lead.
In the seesaw game that ensued as Samsung Life stepped up its game in the fourth quarter, Woori took the lead for good with 3:19 left in the game on a basket by Goara to make it 47-46, before Park Ji-hyun scored back-to-back baskets to make it 51-46 with 1:32 left. Park finished with 17 points and nine rebounds, Kim Dan-bi had 13 points, eight assists and seven rebounds, and Choi Yi-sam added 11 rebounds and eight points.
