Surprise 6⅔ scoreless innings’ by pitcher with a 7.90 ERA, thumbs up from manager Park Jin-man

Samsung won the final game of a three-game midweek series against the Lotte Giants of the 2024 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO League 4-0 at Sajik Stadium on Nov. 11. The victory extended the team’s winning streak to five games and improved their season record to 7-1-1 with a 5.5 percent chance of winning the division.

Reyes was the star of the show on the mound. He pitched the most innings and threw his first no-hitter since joining the KBO League. His final line was 6⅔ innings, 107 pitches, six hits, five walks, one strikeout, and no runs. The complete-game shutout improved him to 2-2 on the season.

At the plate, the best player in the lineup was Kang Min-ho. In his first at-bat, he singled with one out in the top of the second inning. He hit a two-run home run over the left field fence for a 2-0 lead.

In the middle and late innings, Samsung’s mound held strong. Reyes was followed by a solid bullpen of Lim Chang-min (1 1/3 scoreless innings/hitless) and Oh Seung-hwan (1 scoreless inning) to secure the win.

In the top of the ninth, Samsung put the game away. After a walk to Kim Jae-sang and a double by Kim Ji-chan put runners on second and third, Kim Heon-gon hit a two-run single to center field to make it 4-0.

Samsung manager Park Jin-man said after the game, “Reyes pitched the best game we could have hoped for. In the bullpen, Lim Chang-min and Oh Seung-hwan were solid,” he said, adding, “Kang Min-ho hit a home run for the first time in a long time to give the team a chance to win, and the team atmosphere will be even better.” He gave a thumbs-up to the players.

Meanwhile, Samsung will look to extend its winning streak to six games with Lee Seung-min as the starting pitcher against the Daegu NC Dinos on Wednesday. Lee hasn’t made it past the fifth inning in either of his two appearances this year. His season record is 2-1 with an ERA of 11.05 in 7⅓ innings pitched. He will take the mound in hopes of leading his team to a winning streak at a time when they need to turn things around.
