The 1,802 athletes from 78 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) competing at the Gangwon 2024 Winter Youth Olympic Games (hereafter referred to as Gangwon 2024) will not pay for room and board at the Gangneung Wonju University campus dormitory and Jeongseon Haiwon Athletes’ Village in Gangneung, Gangwon Province, where they will stay during the Games. The IOC announced that it spent $4.2 million (5.6 billion won) every day from 2017 to 2021 at a rate of 90 percent on the Olympics, athlete support, and the spread of the Olympic movement, and 10 percent on IOC operating expenses. The largest amount of money was distributed to the host countries of the adult Olympic Games, including the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics ($1.89 billion) and the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics ($970 million). It also provided $64 million to the Buenos Aires 2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games and $26 million to the Lausanne 2020 Winter Youth Olympic Games.
