Ice signboards Kim Min-seok and Lim Hyo-joon follow the path…Hungary’s naturalization is under way

Olympic medalist Kim Min-seok (24), a mid- and long-distance speed skater, is undergoing naturalization procedures to become Hungary. “Kim Min-seok and short-track speed skater Moon Won-joon are seeking to become Hungarian,” a key figure in the ice skating community said on Tuesday. “As far as I know, the agreement has been reached with the Hungarian side.”

Kim Min-seok was on a roll with a bronze medal in the men’s 1,500-meter speed skating competition at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Olympics and the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, but he crashed due to a momentary mistake. 토토사이트 순위

Kim Min-seok, who was the best skater in Korea, caused a stir when he caused a drunk driving accident at Jincheon Training Center in North Chungcheong Province in July 2022, and was suspended by the Sports Fair Committee of the Korea Skating Union in August of that year.

In addition, he was fined 4 million won in May last year and was suspended for two years by the Korean Olympic Committee. However, Kim Min-seok is able to participate in the 2026 Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo Winter Olympics under the national flag, apart from the disciplinary action, so attention is focusing on the reason for his push for naturalization.

Kim’s suspension will end in May next year. As a result, he can participate in the 2025-2026 speed skating competition to be held between October and November 2025, and the 2026 Milan-Cortina-Dampezzo Winter Olympics.

The reason Kim chose to become a naturalized citizen is reportedly related to his training environment. “Kim has not been able to properly train with Seongnam City Hall for a long time since his contract expired. Given the current situation, we cannot guarantee his selection as a member of the national team,” an ice skating community source said.

“In the meantime, coach Lee Cheol-won, the Korean leader of the Hungarian national ice skating team, offered naturalization and seems to have accepted the offer,” he said. Once Kim completes his naturalization process, he will be able to participate in the 2026 Milan/Cortina d’Ampezzo Winter Olympics as a member of the Hungarian national team.

The situation is different from Lin Xiaojun (Im Hyo-jun), who was unable to participate in the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics after naturalizing in China under the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Olympic Charter. According to Article 41 (2) of the Charter, three years must pass after the international competition in which a player participated as an existing nationality in order to participate in the Olympics by changing his nationality.

Kim did not compete in any official international competitions after competing in the men’s 1,000-m event at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics on Feb. 18, 2022. Therefore, he has no problem competing in the Milan-Cortina-Dampecho Olympics in February 2026.

However, if Kim Min-seok confirms his naturalization to Hungary, the performance improvement research pension he receives for winning an Olympic medal will be cut off and he will face considerable criticism.
