Choi Hong-seok, a former national men’s volleyball player, has died at the age of 35. According to the volleyball community, Choi suddenly died on the 9th. No specific cause of death was disclosed.

The mortuary was set up at Incheon Citizens’ Funeral Hall No. 204 in Soongui-dong, Michuhol-gu, Incheon. Choi Hong-seok, born in 1988, started his career as a professional player, wearing the Dream Six uniform as the first overall pick in the 2011-12 season rookie draft.

In the first year of his professional debut, he became the first rookie to achieve the triple crown and won the Rookie of the Year award that year, becoming a star player.

Since then, he has played for Woori Card, KEPCO and OK Financial Group, making a name for himself as one of the top Korean men’s volleyball players. As a member of the national team from 2009 to 2017, he was loved by many volleyball fans.

After retiring from active duty after the end of the 2021-2022 season, he began his “second life” by working as a sports commentator for SBS.
