Lotte’s Son Ho-young shrugs off back-to-back hits “I was happy”

Lotte Giants infielder Son Ho-young (29), who set a record for hitting in 30 consecutive games, tied for the third-longest streak in professional baseball history, shrugged off the disappointment of having his streak interrupted.

“I was very satisfied and had a lot of fun,” Son told reporters before the Giants’ game against the Gochuk Kiwoom Heroes on April 22. If such an opportunity comes again, I want to be a little more greedy,” he said.

The previous day against Kiwoom, Son went 0-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout to end his hitting streak.

In his final at-bat in the eighth inning, he hit an infield grounder and made a head-first sliding catch at first base, but was unable to get a hit.

“I actually knew I was out, but I’m thankful that the manager asked for a video replay,” Son said.

Son, who said he was “not greedy at all” during his hitting streak, admitted that he was conscious of the record in his last at-bat of the previous day’s game.

“I just need one more game (to match Park Jung-tae’s record of 31 hits in 31 games, the second-best single-season total in history), so I got greedy and hit the ball, but it didn’t work out, and that was it,” he said.

“What’s past is past,” he said, adding, “I left more (regrets) at the hotel yesterday.” “I was really happy, but people around me were worried that the record was broken. I’m really satisfied,” he said.

Son Ho-young, who was unable to perform at his best with the LG Twins until last season due to frequent injuries, has blossomed in a Lotte uniform this year.

At one point last year, he wondered if he should quit baseball, but this season he has become Lotte’s centerpiece hitter, batting .324 (55-for-170) with eight home runs and 35 RBIs.

The three letters of his name have become a symbol of hope for the players who are still battling it out in the second team.

“I feel like I need to work harder,” Son said. Even if it’s a little hard now, there will be a good day, so I wish all the other players well,” she said.

Lotte manager Kim Tae-hyung said, “He said he didn’t care, but I could see the urgency in his batting. She’s our center fielder, so I hope she can get back to her batting pace again.” 안전놀이터
